About us
A small Louisiana homestead, and the gear that earns its keep
When a link can earn us a commission, it says (paid link) right beside it. Our disclosure page lists every program we join.
Who we are
Our story
We're Jeremy and Misty. When we settled down, we took a hard look at what everything cost and decided it was too much. So we set out to provide more for ourselves, with a small patch of land and a plan.
Chickens were first on the list. So was the hassle. Tractor Supply for this, Academy for that, and back across town for the thing we forgot. With gas what it costs, all that running around burns money and time.
So we're building the shop we wished we'd had: what you need to get started, gathered in one place.
We hope to grow with you and watch you grow with us.
Used here, or Researched
How we pick gear
Every pick in our Shop carries one of two labels. Used here means we own it and use it, and we'll tell you what we don't like about it. Researched means we haven't used it. We say so, make no first-hand claims, and link our sources. We only call something a hands-on review when it comes from our own use. If a brand sends us something free, the review says so. A commission never decides what goes on the shelf.

Muscadine & Magnolia
Why the name
The muscadine is a grape native to the South. The magnolia is Louisiana's state flower, and Magnolia is also the name of a bronze muscadine variety.
For now, the photos on this site are licensed stock images. Our own close-ups of the birds and gear will replace them as we take them. Photo credits
